Roger Clemens (see credits below) Peace in the world may finally be restored. Rapture has been put off until at least October, Roger Clemens is a free man for the time being and the NFL lockout seems to be coming to an end. Plus we had the first MLB games of the 2nd half to digest. So here we go!
Toronto spanked the Yankees silly 16-7, not even letting Bartolo Colon get out of the first inning. Lucky for Colon's ERA, he was only charged with 3 of the 8 runs scored in 2/3 of an inning. MLB record holder of most starts without a win (28) Jo Jo Reyes miraculously got his 5th win even though he gave up 7 runs. Eric Thames' 2 doubles and 3 RBI's led the Jays. Jose Bautista twisted his right ankle while sliding and is listed as day-to-day. Fingers crossed, it's a quick heal. Of the Jays' 16 runs, no home runs were hit.
Carlos Santana started off the 2nd half trying to correct his first half woes. He went 2-5 and hit his 14th home run of the year. His .233 average is disgusting, but I would take advantage of the situation and try to make a trade before he heats for the rest of the year.
In a great pitching matchup, neither Anibal Sanchez nor Matt Garza got the decision.
Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz crushed homers giving Derek Holland the 5-0 win over Jason Vargas and the Mariners. Holland pitched his 2nd straight complete game shutout after having a string of bad starts. One should note that although Holland has been narsty the last two, the games were against Oakland and Seattle. His next 3 starts should be against the Angels, Twins & Toronto and if he keeps up the stellar pitching hopefully he can win 2 of the 3.
The bad luck continues for Madison Bumgarner who again pitched a gem and again couldn't muster the win. He went 6 innings and only gave up 1 run. Aaron Harang actually outpitched Bumgarner, throwing 7 scoreless innings but didn't receive the win either. San Fran scored 5 in the 12th to win 6-2.
Ubaldo Jimenez continues his rebound trek easily beating Yovani Gallardo and the Brew Crew. The window to buy low on Ubaldo is quickly closing. Both Gallardo & Jimenez drove in runs in the 2nd inning. Wonder when the last time that happened?
In the battle of the bottom dwellers, Minnesota beat the Royals 8-4 behind Francisco Liriano, who continues his up and down season. His 4.76 ERA is making me seasick... I'm giving the pitching matchup of the day to Andrew Miller vs David Price. Let's see if Miller can go against a big boy and win his 4th of the year. Also hurling today is 4 of the leagues best - Tim Lincecum, Dan Haren, Clayton Kershaw and Justin Verlander.(July 13, 2011 - Photo by Mark Wilson/Getty Images North America)Written by Evan Marx exclusively for TheFantasyFix.com

Bobby Parnell (see credits below) Welcome to Week 15 of Wired & Baked. As usual below are 5 players owned in 50% or less of Yahoo Leagues and also a special AL-only & NL-only pick at the end. Good luck to all in the 2nd half!Bobby Parnell, NYM (25% owned) Parnell has the slight edge over Jason Isringhausen as the top choice to take over closer responsibilities now that K-Rod is in Milwaukee. Izzy is more experienced as a closer but is a bit old now. In 24.2 innings Parnell has a 2.92 ERA and is averaging 1.23 K's per inning. Denard Span, Twins (36%) Span has been on the DL since June 9th, but has been cleared to begin rehab. This may a more appropriate play next week once we are certain Span is completely healthy, but if you have the space on your roster, stash him for a week and reap the rewards in runs and stolen bases. Brad Lidge, Phillies (49%) Lidge is inching his way back to returning to the Phillies, hopefully by the end of the month or sooner. Bastardo has been more than excellent closing, but chances are that the Phils will feel more than obligated to give the role back to Lidge sooner than later. Stay tuned.
Aroldis Chapman, Reds (40%) Everyone knows Chapman has the skills. At this point it may be that he just needs the opportunity to arise. Francisco Cordero has given up 7 runs in the last 4 appearances and blown 3 saves. The Reds will allow Cordero to rebound after the All-Star Break, but there's a damn good chance of Chapman stepping in if there is one more mishap in the next week.
Javier Vazquez, Marlins(26%) With an ERA over 5.00, almost everyone has given up on Vazquez being fantasy relevant this year, but for those paying attention, you'll notice he has been a stud in the last 3 games and even the 2 before that were pretty nice. Historically Vazquez has been best in July and slightly better in almost all categories after the break. Totally worth a shot.
AL only Jeanmar Gomez, Indians (0%) Gomez is starting Sunday, taking the place of Mitch Talbot who hit the 15-Day DL. In 4 appearances earlier in the year, Gomez held a not too pretty 4.91 ERA, but he should have a good chance of sticking with the team the remainder of the year. He's got the stuff, now he just has to show it. NL only Alex Presley, Pirates (8%) Through 13 games, Presley has more than impressed, batting .365 with 9 runs and 6 RBI. He looks like he has locked up left field over Xavier Paul and on a young Pirates team he can learn while having fun too. Mike Trout Derek Jeter's pursuit to 3,000 will have to wait at least another day as heavy rain postponed the Tampa Bay game.
Nineteen year-old Mike Trout, the top prospect in baseball, was promoted to the Big Show for last night’s Angels game. The youngster went 0-for-3 at the plate, but made an incredible running catch in his Major League debut. Trout should be owned in all formats.
Rickie Weeks smacked an inside-the-park home run last night, his 17th of the season. Not sure those would count for his upcoming appearance in the Home Run Derby during the All-Star Game.
Big Surprise: David O’Brien of the AJC is reporting that Chipper Jones is considering missing the All-Star Game due to a right knee injury.
Travis Snider is doing all he can to prove he belongs on the Blue Jays roster. Friday night certainly helped his case going 3-5 with a home run 5 RBI. Since rejoining the team on July 4th, Snider is 9-22.
Rajai Davis swiped his 23rd & 24th bag of the season.
Aramis Ramirez tear continues, hitting his 11th home run in the past 15 games. Through that run he is batting .381 with 17 RBI.
We didn't even have to wait until after the All-Star Break for Hanley Ramirez to come around. He went 3-3, a home run and 3 RBI. Zach Britton, maybe you should give a call to Madison Bumgarner or Jaime Garcia and see how they coped with some of the worst performances ever. Boston demolished Britton, as he only lasted 2/3 of an inning and gave up 7 earned runs.Josh Beckett left the Red Sox-Orioles game early for precautionary reasons with an apparent left knee injury.
Scott Sizemore hit his 3rd home run in the last 6 games.
Javy Guerra (3), David Hernandez (7), Jose Valverde (23), Mat Capps (14), Leo Nunez (24), Joel Hanrahan (26) and Huston Street (25) each earned saves last night.
The pitching duels I’m looking forward to watching tomorrow: Tommy Hanson @ Cliff Lee, David Price @ AJ Burnett, Daniel Hudson @ Chris Carpenter and Johnny Cueto @ Shawn Marcum. Written by Alan Harrison & Evan Marx exclusively for TheFantasyFix.com

Jose Reyes (see credits below) This article is dedicated to Shannon Stone, who in a freak accident lost his life at the Rangers game yesterday.
The Mets placed Jose Reyes on the 15-day DL. This is a huge loss to owners, as Reyes was playing at a MVP caliber. No one off the waiver wire will fill the huge shoes and with SS being so thin, it's probably not worth trading for anyone either. Possible pickups that will tide you over: Emilio Bonifacio, Darwin Barney, Alcides Escobar, Brandon Crawford, or Chase d'Arnaud.
The Yankees may have lost to the Rays and fallen behind the Sox by half a game but the city is still buzzing, knowing that Derek Jeter is now 2 hits away from 3,000. Internet casinos and sports gambling sites are probably taking big bets if the Jeter will hit the milestone tonight.
Jason Heyward's season which started with so much promise has just been plain ugly. Injuries only seem to be part of the problem, but nonetheless J-Hey went yard last night, hopefully giving us a glimpse into the 2nd half of play. Freddie Freeman also sent one sailing, his 4th homer in the last 4 games. Craig Kimbrel notched his league best 27th save in the 6-3 win over Colorado.
Carlos Pena's .225 average is nothing to brag about, but at least he keeps hitting them out of the park. Of his 62 hits, 19 are home runs.
Jose Bautista continues to light up the month of July, hitting his 29th of the year and 5th in the last 7 games.
The Red Sox cruised past the O's 10-4 giving rookie Andrew Miller his 3rd win. Six Sox hit home runs, including the red-hot Josh Reddick's 2nd of the year.
Derek Holland 4-hit Oakland on route to a complete game shut-out.
Rickie Weeks hit his 16th home run of the year and trying to prove that he is worthy of playing in the home run derby.
After playing each other 2 weeks in a row, I'm sure Clayton Kershaw and Jered Weaver enjoyed beating up on other teams. Kershaw held the Mets scoreless through 8 and striking out 9 (T-1st with 138). Weaver pitched his 5th complete game of the season, holding Seattle to 1 run and struckout 6. He leads the AL with a 1.86 ERA and is tied for 2nd in WHIP at 0.91.
Barry Zito won his 3rd game in a row since coming off the DL is worth a look in at least NL-leagues.
Scott Baker has a mild flexor muscle strain and will miss his next start and then be re-evaluated.
Some great pitching matchups to watch today are Brandon Beachy @Roy Halladay, Zach Britton @Josh Beckett, Mike Leake @Zack Greinke, Mat Latos @Chad Billingsley and Gio Gonzalez @CJ Wilson. Also hurling today is Jeremy Hellickson, Ian Kennedy, Blake Beavan, Ryan Vogelsong.(July 5, 2011 - Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images North America)Written by Evan Marx exclusively for TheFantasyFix.com

Josh Reddick (see credits below) Welcome to Week 14 of Wired & Baked. Jesse is taking the week off, so I will be filling in and hopefully matching or exceeding the amazing job he does every week. In week 13 he was spot on about Eric Thames and Jason Vargas. I actually kept Thames in this week too, because he has been a real offensive spark for the Jays and he is still owned at only 5%!
As usual below are 5 players owned in 50% or less of Yahoo Leagues and also a special AL-only & NL-only pick at the end. Good luck and happy 4th of July!Seth Smith (41%) - I'm sorry, there is no reason in the world that Seth Smith should be owned under 50%. Yes it is true that he can't hit lefties for the life of him (.195 career) but he sure can hit righties (.295 & 41 HR in 379 games). Just keep him away from lefties and reap the rewards.
Logan Morrison (48%) - Logan saw his ownership drop after an injury in late April. Since returning he's seen his average drop all the way down to .265. He's hit a few home runs in the past few days and I believe that he will be much closer to .285-.300 by season's end.
Daniel Murphy (38%) - First and foremost, Murphy is eligible for 4 positions. On top of that he is batting .298 on the year and just had his second 8-game hitting streak of the season. He may not hit you home runs, but the average, runs and RBI's are all there.
Eric Thames (5%) - Thames made our list last week and looks to be fitting in quite well in Toronto. He hit his 3rd homer in the last 5 games and is batting .329 so far. This guy was brought up to make a spark for Toronto…how about he does it for your team too?
Mark Ellis (4%) - Playing for the Rockies is like fantasy gold. In Ellis' first 3 games he is 8-15 with 5 runs and 7 RBI. I think going to Colorado is the nice boost he needs after playing on that stagnant A's offense for so long.
NL only: Darwin Barney (31%) - If you're looking for a young guy with talent to boost up your average, Barney may be your man. Since returning from the DL 4 games ago, two of them were multi-hit games.
AL only: Josh Reddick (3%) - Filling in for Carl Crawford is no easy task but Reddick is sure making it look easy. He has 5 multi-hit games in the 12 he's played since being recalled. With Mike Cameron being designated for assignment Reddick may be able to stay up with the team even after Crawford returns. Keep a close eye but so far so good!Written by Evan Marx exclusively for TheFantasyFix.com

Jair Jurrjens (see credits below) Jair Jurrjens won his league-leading 11th game with ease. He pitched a complete game 1-hitter against the Orioles last night and struck out 8. Jurrjens lowered his ERA to 1.89 and leads all pitchers.
How better to start off July than by going yard. Jose Bautista hit his 25th of the year. After hitting 11 in May, Bautista only hit 4 in June. Here's looking to a stronger July!
Also Eric Thames who was brought up to give the Jays a little spark, hit his 2nd home run since rejoining the team on the 24th.
Both Alexei Ramirez (8) & Aramis Ramirez (11) hit home runs yesterday.
Another fine performance from Madison Bumgarner (7.1 IP, 5H, 1R, 9K) last night against the Tigers and another no-decision… at least it wasn't for a loss. Just looking quickly through the game logs, one could imagine that if Bumgarner played for a team that could actually score, he could easily have 8 more wins. The craziest thing is that the Giants stand atop the NL West but on the very bottom of runs scored (104). What the f&%!
The Yankees took the first game of the Subway series, winning 5-1 behind Ivan Nova. Ivan hasn't been spectacular but good enough to already have 8 wins before the break.
Carlos Santana is starting to heat up, hitting his 2 home run in the last 3 games. Great buy-low candidate for the second half.
Alexi Ogando had some big help for his 8th win from teammate Nelson Cruz. Nelson hit his 19th home run of the year and drove in 6 of the Rangers 15 runs.
After going 5-36, Charlie Blackmon pinch hit for a home run. No better way to break out of a slump. Juan Nicasio shut-out the Royals, holding them to 3 hits over 8 innings.
As long as the Diamondbacks keep playing AL teams, Wily Mo Pena will continue to hit them out of the park. He hit his 4th home run since being called up 10 games ago.
Jason Vargas, you may very well be the most underrated pitcher out there. Vargas pitched his 4th complete game shutout against the Padres last night. He is only owned in 18% of Y! and only 25% of ESPN leagues.
Pitching matchup of the day goes to Clayton Kershaw vs. Jered Weaver. This is a rematch from last week where Kershaw slightly out-dueled Weaver for the win.(June 30, 2011 - Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images North America)Written by Evan Marx exclusively for TheFantasyFix.com

Chris Davis (see credits below) Haven't we heard this story before? The Dallas Morning News reports that Chris Davis may soon be joining the Rangers yet again after a ridiculous run at Round Rock. He has 19 homers in 33 games and 9 in his last 11. David Murphy will most likely lose playing time as a result. Knowing that Davis has the potential to hit 30+ homers at a major league level, he may be worth the gamble right now before its too late or… same old same old.
Cole Hamels was trucking along, like he has all season, when he was hit in the right hand from a Adrian Gonzalez rocket. X-rays came back negative and he is questionable for his next start against the Marlins but don't be surprised if as a precaution they skip a start.
Carlos Zambrano was also injured and left after 1 inning with lower back soreness. Middle relief man Marcos Mateo took over in the 2nd inning and threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. Matt Cain pitched 7 innings scoreless ball and was heading towards the win until Aramis Ramirez jacked one out against El Beard in the 9th. It was A-Ram's 5th moon shot (as Alan would say) in the last 7 games. The Cubs won in the 13th 5-2.
On the opposite spectrum, Derek Jeter will be rejoining the Yanks on Monday in his pursuit of 3,000 hits. Since going on the DL the Yankees are 12-3 and now stand 2.5 up on the Sox.
CC Sabathia struck out 13 Brewers and held them to 6 hits (3 of which went to the Magnificent Mr. Braun) over 7.2 innings. CC won his 4th in a row and is tied with Verlander for first in wins (11).
Red-hot Daniel Murphy homered off of Justin Verlander in the 2nd inning but it was smooth sailing from there on out. Verlander finished the day with 6 strikeouts over 7 innings as the Tigers won 5-2. JV now leads the league in K's with 130, tied for first in wins with 11, and stands 3rd in the AL with a 2.32 ERA.
It wasn't Jaime Garcia finest outing but it certainly wasn't his worst (5.1 IP,10H,5R). Luckily Brian Matusz wasn't any better (3.1 IP,9H,8R) and Garcia picked up his 7th win of the season. Lance Berkman hit his 19th & 20th shots of the season and with Matt Holliday back in action, he seems to be doing just fine without the chosen one, Albert Pujols. Behind Wandy Rodriguez, Houston avoided the sweep from the Rangers. He pitched 7 innings of scoreless ball, winning his 6th of the year and lowered his ERA to just under 3.00. Wandy has put together a great season and hypothetically if he was playing for anyone besides the Astros, we might be looking at a 10-game winner right now.Written by Evan Marx exclusively for TheFantasyFix.com

Cliff Lee (see credits below) Cliff Lee pitched a 2-hit complete game shutout Tuesday against the Red Sox. It was his third complete game shutout in a row. Lee is the hottest thing since the Sony Walkman or Justin Bieber (its debatable). In the month of June he is 5-0, with a 0.21 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, and .151 BAA. Historically, Lee has always been a phenomenal June pitcher with a 25-6 record, 3.07 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and .240 BAA.
Adrian Gonzazlez will in fact start in left field Wednesday. Not sure it really matters where the Sox play him. In the league A-Gonz is 1st in BA (.357), 1st in RBI (71), 6th in Runs (56), 6th in OBP (.412), 4th in slugging (.605) & 5th in OPS (1.017).
Kevin Towers may be an idiot or a genius, either way Wily Mo Pena hit a walk-off home run for the D-Backs last night.
Zack Greinke lasted only 2 Innings against the Yankees Tuesday, giving up 7 earned runs. Mark Teixeira slammed his 24th home run, keeping him tied with Jose Bautista who also hit his 24th last night. Nick Swisher also continues his hot streak hitting his 10th homer on the year. In June Swisher is batting .325 with 7 homers, 22 RBI and owns a whopping 1.116 OPS. I noticed someone in Draftstreet’s Daily Game yesterday that picked all Yankee players. How did he know the Yanks would smack around Greinke?
Josh Johnson will not be making a return anytime soon. His shoulder still does not feel 100% and he is going to see Dr. James Andrews (yes the Tommy John surgery guy). Should we be worried? Johnson was moved from the 15-day DL to the 60-day and if it’s just a minor setback he will be eligible to come off July 17th.
During interleague play NL teams call up players to DH. Two big time names that got the call Tuesday were Alex Presley and Mat Gamel. Presley went 2-5 with a HR and 3 RBI and Gamel went 2-4 with an RBI.
Two of the most disappointing players this year, Evan Longoria & Dan Uggla, are hoping that June has put them back on track. Longoria hit his 10th home run last night and 5th in the last 5 games. Uggla hit his 12th against Michael Pineda, his 3rd in the last 6 games. Neither player is hitting for average, but at least they are hitting them out.
On the topic of the Braves, there is only one active starting player hitting over .300 (Brian McCann). The 2nd highest is Freddie Freeman’s .265 avg and the lowest is above mentioned Mr. Uggla (.177). I just puked in my mouth a little. Martin Prado can’t come back quick enough!
Edwin Encarcion blasted 2 out of the park yesterday. He hit a bomb 2 days ago as well. He is as streaky as they come when hitting homers. In May last year he hit 5 homers in a 3 game series against Arizona and then ended the season hitting 5 in the last 4 games. If you want to pick him off the wire that’s fine because he may hit a few more, but don’t be surprised when it dries up real quick.
Ryan Madson was placed on the 15-day DL. Now is the time to go pick Antonio Bastardo or Michael Stutes off the wire.Gio Gonzalez was a manimal last night. He 1-hit the Marlins through 8 innings and K’d 9. Gio lowered his ERA to 2.38 on the season. The kid is good!
Matt Capps continues to see his trade stock rise as he collected his 12th save.
Tommy Hanson returned from the DL and pitched a decent game going 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 8.
Barry Zito returned to the Giants rotation and pitched 7 innings giving up only 2 earned runs while striking out 3.
Vernon Wells went 4-5 with double & HR against the Nats. He has hit a home run in 3 of the last 4.
The Mets demolished the Tigers 14-3. Jose Reyes was a homer away from a cycle but made up for it with a stolen base (29). Both Jason Bay & Carlos Beltran hit grand salamis.
Ryan Ludwick continues to be the only consistent run producer for the Padres.
Michael Bourn swiped his 34th base of the season. (June 27, 2011 - Photo by Drew Hallowell/Getty Images North America) Written by JJ Omar & Evan Marx exclusively for TheFantasyFix.com

Justin Morneau (see credits below) Philadelphia's four-head monster will have to make due with three heads for a while as Roy Oswalt is heading to the 15-day DL with a back injury. Honestly the old-timer had the highest ERA out of Philly starters at 3.79. Why can't you be more like all your brothers with a sub-3 ERA? Go to your room and think about that, mister!
Throw another Twin on the Bar-B. Justin Morneau, who just can't stay away from the DL, will be on more of a sabbatical than a vacation. Morneau will have surgery on his neck to help a pinched nerve and will be out for 6 weeks!
Wow, James Shields is good this season. I mean really good. Like super duper uber good. Jamie pitched his 3rd straight complete game, easily dominating the Astros. This was his 6th complete game putting his 2 ahead of Justin Tootin' Verlander & Roy Boy Halladay. With the 9K last night, he now has 117 good for 2nd behind in the AL behind King Felix's 118.
Speaking of the King, Felix took care of the Marlins with ease last night, holding them to 2 hits over 8 innings. He struckout 10 fish.
Derek Lee, who used to be fantasy relevant, hit a walk off homer in the 12th to beat the Reds, giving him a whopping 5 homers on the year. Let's not even discuss his 19 RBI in 219 AB…
Father Time Giambi hit a homer in the 2nd inning against his former team, the Yankees. Ubaldo Jimenez pitched relatively well, giving up 2 runs over 7 innings and enough for his 3rd win. Ubaldo may not be anywhere near close to the 2010 model, but he's shown enough improvements over the last 5 games and now would be the time to make a trade for him.
Wily Mo Pena blasted his 2nd homer since returning to the majors. We could have a sleeper on our hands, but Pena was only brought up to hit DL while the D-backs played AL teams. Keep an eye and be ready to pounce…
Texas easily rolled over the Mets 8-1 with homers from Beltre (13), Young (5) and Hamilton (7).
Starlin Castro went 3-5 raising his average up to .327, good for 3rd in the NL.
Michael Morse hit his 14th home run and is a pleasant surprise this year, although not a shock. His numbers are slightly better than what he did in half a season last year.
BATTLE OF THE BIRDS: J-Bot hit his league-leading 23rd homer in the 9th, giving the Jays the 5-4 win over the Cards. Brandon Morrow did what he does best and struckout 9 through 7 innings.
Tim Stauffer whiffed a career high 9 batters against the Braves in the 11-2 win. Stauffer pitched his 4th straight quality start and although he sits at 3-5, his ERA (3.09), WHIP (1.21) and K's (82) are all very impressive. Mat Latos who?
Dan Haren may have gotten the win over the Dodgers last night, but the subpar pitching over the past 6 games is worrying. Over that span he has a 5.75 ERA, 1.5 WHIP and only 6.5 K/9. Matt Kemp hit his NL best 21st home run in the first inning off Haren.
Pitching matchups to watch today: Trevor Cahill@Cole Hamels, Justin Masterson @Matt Cain, Josh Collmenter @Justin Verlander, Francisco Liriano @Yovani Gallardo. Also hurling today is CC Sabathia, Jair Jurrjens, Jaime Garcia, Alexi Ogando. Jose Bautista (see credits below) It was a short day of games Thursday and the possibly the biggest news of the day came from a guy who didn't even play. Jose Bautista will be moved from right field to third base temporarily to hopefully give the Jays the spark they need. Although in the fantasy realm he already had 3B status (since he played 45 games there in 2010) the importance of this move means that if he plays 20 games there in 2011 he will have the dual-status yet again in 2012.
After 2 straight losses, Tim Lincecum yet again proved why is considered one of the elite pitchers of his generation. Lincey held the red-hot Twins to 3 hits, zero runs and fanned 12. How hot are the Twins you ask? It was the their 2nd loss in the last 10 games. Lincecum evened his record up at 6-6, although any Giants pitcher right now can attest the losses due to the Giants lack of run support (Madison Bumgarner knows this too well). His 113 K's put him just a handful of strikeouts behind the league leaders.
It was a pitchers duel in the nation's capital with Michael Pineda squaring off against Jason Marquis, both going for their 8th win of the season. After giving up 12 hits and 4 runs in his previous outing, Marquis blanked the Mariners through 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 3BB. Pineda was equally as good, also shutting out the Nats through 7 innings and whiffing 9. Neither pitcher received the decision in the 1-0 Nationals win. Although Pineda may see limited innings towards the end of the season, he has clearly become an absolute must for keeper leagues.
Chris Capuano dazzled at Citi Field against the helpless A's. He shut them out through 6 innings and struckout 7. It was his 4th straight Quality Start in a row and although his record stands at 6-7, he actually held opponents to 2 ER in 3 of the losses.
Daniel Hudson has quietly turned his season around after losing the first 4 games of the season. He improved to 9-5 with the win over Kansas last night and a little quick math will tell us that he is 9-1 in his last 10 decisions. Hopefully some of you were able to buy low early on, but for those who didn't… TOO LAAAATTE!
Chris Carpenter led St. Louis to a 12-2 win over the first place Phillies. Carpenter earned only his 2nd win of the season and his first in the last 8 games. His 2011 numbers (4.26 ERA/1.35 WHIP/.282 BAA) are well above his career (3.82/1.28/.261) due to a handful of bad outings, but it appears that there is a significant amount of bad luck associated with him not earning wins. Out 16 games started, 9 have resulted in a loss or no-decision in which he held the other team to 3 runs or less. Carpenter certainly has a lot of pressure on him this year with the loss of Adam Wainwright and now the big bat of Albert Pujols, but one can easily argue that now would be the time to buy low!
On the opposite side of the mound Roy Oswalt felt the pain, literally, as he took himself out in the 3rd inning due to lower back tightness. Friday brings back a full day of games and with that here are the matchups to keep an eye on: Ubaldo Jimenez @AJ Burnett, James Shields @Wandy Rodriguez, Felix Hernandez @Ricky Nolasco, Carlos Carrasco @Jonathan Sanchez. Also hurling today is Dan Haren, Brandon Morrow, Jordan Zimmerman, Scott Baker and Jon Lester.Written by Evan Marx exclusively for www.thefantasyfix.com.
