2012 Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Advice & Analysis

Welcome to the 52 Pick-Up Big Board for the fantasy baseball season. This is the list of top 52 players that I would draft today in a 5x5 rotisserie format, and should be updated every seven to fourteen days. Why rank 52 players? Because as Mr. 52 Pick-Up, what better a number of players to rank. Feel free to comment and discuss why one player is too high, too low, or not included at all, and I’ll respond to defend my rankings.

For this weeks rankings (3/26/2011),  I put in the auction values from an expert league that Alan Harrison was in (first numbers), and an expert league that I am in (second numbers).  I expect some comments on the auction values, as well as my hate for Justin Upton and my love for Nick Markakis.

Alan's auction values are for a 10 team league, and mine are for a 14 team league. So for those in between, you'd be pretty much safe to split the difference.

re: Upton, Markakis - At least you know you're crazy.

I'm not buying Upton. He hasn't done anything yet to show me he's the elite player he's being valued at, and he whiffs too many times to post a good average.

Markakis has a surprisingly good lineup around him, and I'm expecting a .305/20/10/100/100 season out of him. That's not far off Matt Holliday.

Upton won't even turn 24 until halfway through the 2011 season. Sky is the limit.

I don't disagree with Upton's potential. But I remember his brother, the Drews, and the Youngs all had some pretty bright futures. At the end of the day, I'm not paying for what a player can do, I'm paying for what he will do. All I see is Hunter Pence with a lower average.
