Hers is some Last minute analysis of questionable 2 start options. Aces get the nod as usual. Poor options aren't considered.
Ryan Dempster (CHC) Opponents--@ATL, @CHW Both Dempster's mechanics and command have been sub-par lately, rumors of a possible injury have been swirling, but you'd never know it just by looking at his ERA over the past 4 starts (only 4 earned runs allowed in his past 26 IPs). The 6 BB's his last time out doesn't exactly exude confidence; however, both teams he'll be facing this week are in the bottom third of the MLB in runs scored, so he's certainly worth starting--now lets just monitor his health going forward.
Max Scherzer (HOU) Opponents--TEX, LAA Other than 1 dreadful start against ATL, Scherzer's been excellent since the mid-mark of May. Then again, if you look at his game log, you'll see that he hasn't faced a quality opponent since the Dodgers on May 5th. Beating-up on bad teams is what a quality pitcher is supposed to do, and, to his credit, Scherzer certainly has...but his opponents this week are pro, and I don't see him getting through the week with-out at least one short outing.
Ubaldo Jimenez (COL) Opponents--@LAA, @OAK both road Jimenez has shown doubters this season thus far that he's the real-deal. Two starts away from the thin-air of Colorado make him a decent option to get you at least 1 win this week. He has won his last 3 starts, including a 9K performance followed by a complete game. He's at the point of his season, and career, where he's either about to step-up and be the ace many have claimed he is, or fade into the sea of mediocrity. I really like the skill set he brings to the table.
Hiroki Kuroda (LAD) Opponents--@CHW, SEA Kuroda has had a rough couple weeks lately, but the bottom line is that he's a quality starter. Backed by one of the strongest offenses in the NL, and I don't see why him producing at least 1 win and a helpful WHIP would be unreasonable expectations.
Joel Piniero (STL) Opponents--@NYM, MIN Piniero has lost 5 straight starts and 8 of his last 9. His formidable ERA and slightly above-average WHIP indicate that things just aren't bouncing his way. If he continues to post decent figures in these categories, his fortunes are bound to take a turn for the better.
Ian Snell (PIT) Opponents--CLE, KC In Snell's last start, he earned his 1st win since April 18th--nearly a 2 month span. However, don't write him off because of that. Snell hasn't allowed a HR in his last 4 games, and has posted 3 straight quality starts. Those who know Snell know that his WHIP is always a question, and playing in PIT won't usually yield a pitcher many wins. His opponents this week can be deceptively dangerous, as the last-place Indians have scored the 3rd most runs in the Majors this season. I'd stay away from him if other options are available.
Good Luck to everyone this week, and Happy Father's Day! Thanks for checking out thefantasyfix.com
