DraftKings.com Team of the Day:

We have a small slate of players to work with today and with this few games, we could see some odd lineups so check in closer to game time to ensure all of my choices are still available. I’ll try to leave you with a couple of options. The infield spots are a bit of a wasteland so we have to get creative.

Madison Bumgarner | P | Giants | $9,600 –Bumgarner has been on fire over his last three starts – all wins. He’s posted a 3-0 record with a 2.37 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 19 innings. The Dodgers hold the best K% against lefties in the league, but Bumgarner’s been too good to pass up as he’s been great at Dodger Stadium in his career.

Eric Stults | P | Padres | $5,900 – Stults has been great lately and gets to pitch at home where he is fantastic. In 82 IP, he has a 3.18 ERA and is 7-2. He’s got a 6.5 K/9 ratio which is solid if not spectacular. He also gets to face a Phillies team that will have to travel cross country on Sunday for the Monday game. The Phillies hold the seventh worst K% against lefties in the majors at 22.1%.

If you wanted to flip the script at pitcher, I could see taking Cliff Lee ($11,400) and Esmil Rogers ($5,000). Both have been good over their last three starts and both face low powered offenses in low scoring venues (San Diego and Tampa Bay respectively).

Buster Posey | C | Giants | $3,900 – Say it with me. If Buster Posey is facing a left handed starter, put him in your lineup. Posey has a career 1.044 OPS against lefties. He’s a bit down this year (at only .960), but at the same price as Yan Gomes, he’s a steal.

Adam Lind | 1B | Blue Jays | $3,900– Since May 11, Lind has a 388/417/657 slash line. To say he’s hot is an understatement. I like him a bit more than his teammate Edwin Encarnacion is more expensive. Lind’s career OPS against righties (.846) is 220 points higher than lefties. He does have five hits in 15 ABs against Jeremy Hellickson.

Logan Forsythe | 2B | Padres | $3,400 – Forsythe is hitting lead off for the Padres and has been hot since his recall (.949 OPS in the last seven days. Moreover, he’s a solid hitter against lefties (.844 career OPS).

Mark Reynolds | 3B | Indians | $5,300 – He’s expensive, but we can afford him with our other bargain bin shopping. Reynolds is much better hitter versus lefties (.855 OPS) and he’s facing one who likes to give up home runs.

Mike Aviles | SS | Indians | $4,200 – Aviles should hit near the top of the order against Zach Britton. Zach Britton should give up runs. Someone has to score those runs. It will be Mr. Aviles to do so.

Jose Bautista | OF | Blue Jays| $4,700 – Bautista is one of the few hitters today who has any sort of track record against the opposing starter. He’s got seven hits in 15 Abs against Jeremy Hellickson including two homeruns.

Hunter Pence | OF | Giants| $4,000 – Speaking of Giant lefty killers, Pence has a 1.031 OPS this year against lefties and sports an OPS almost 60 points higher against lefties than righties. Plus, his nickname is Captain Underpants.

Kyle Blanks | OF | Padres| $3,300 – Blanks has hit lefties well this season (.962 OPS) and he’s cheap. His teammate Chris Denorfia is also an option as he’s made a career (.841 OPS vs. .689 against righties) though he’s a bit more expensive ($3,700).

If you are looking to stack today I think the Indians are your best bet. I could make an argument for starting Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis and even Ryan Raburn. But, stay away from Lonnie Chisenhall. He’s just arrived from AAA, but still struggles mightily with lefties.

I’ve left $1,800 on the table so we’ll have some room to wiggle if we need to when lineups are announced.

The First Pitch:

A few injury updates to start your week off right:

Pablo Sandoval is coming back on Monday.

Aaron Hill is set to return Tuesday.

Chris Perez expects to return by late in the week. He should assume the closer’s role. In a related story, Brett Myers is being converted to a reliever while on rehab. In a related story, Myers has closed a couple of times in his career (40 career saves). In a related story, Chris Perez’s dog is still under investigation.

Oscar Taveras is hurt again.

Carlos Gomez hurt his shoulder on Sunday and is day to day. He makes a risky play for this week.

Peter Bourjos left with a thumb injury. No news yet after his X-Ray. He also makes a risky play for this week.

Jayson Werth is hurt. It must be a day that ends in “y”.

Shane Victorino hurts his back on Sunday. He is considered day to day.

Bryce Harper looks to start his rehab on Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Hopefully.

Jose Reyes might return this week.

And now, some notes from Sunday’s action:

Jordan Lyles had been pitching pretty well as of late until he ran into the buzzsaw that is the Chicago Cubs’ offense. New starting centerfielder Ryan Sweeney had six RBIs, Nate Schierholtz continued to terrorize right handers with another three hits and two RBIs, and Anthony Rizzo drove in four, scored four and was a perfect three for three at the plate. Even after giving up five earned runs in five innings, Lyles ERA sits at a tidy 3.68 for the season.

Mat Latos struck out 13 Arizona Diamondbacks as the Cincinnati Reds picked up a 4-2 win.

The Toronto Blue Jays garnered their eleventh win in a row as Josh Johnson picked up his first victory of the season. Edwin Encarnacion led the way on offense with four hits including a home run and four RBIs while Johnson scattered seven hits and gave up four earned runs over six innings while striking out five.

Heading into the top of the ninth, the Angels had a comfortable 6-3 lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The final score? 10-9 in 10 innings as the Ernesto Frieri and Kevin Jepsen gave up lead and the game. Not to be outdone, Pirates’ closer Jason Grilli did his best Angels’ bullpen impersonation as he gave up three runs of his won in the bottom of the tenth. Both Frieri and Grilli are safe in their roles.

David Wright went four for five with a home run and and Matt Harvey struck out six over six innings as the Mets cruised to an 8-0 victory over the lowly Philadelphia Phillies.
