2013 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: July 26

DraftKings Team of the Day

Today I’m going with old reliable – a $1 Double Up contest. You can also play in $3, $5 and $10 Double Ups where you have a 50/50 shot at winning. It’s a very fun and easy way to get involved in daily fantasy sports at DraftKings. When you sign up at DK don’t forget to claim your deposit bonus.

Player  Matchup Salary Note
SP – James Shields  Chicago White Sox 9,800 CWS rank 27th in wRC+ vs. righties
SP – Mike Minor  St. Louis  8,500  STL very good offensively, but as a Cards fan I’ve seen them get dominated by too many soft-tossing lefties who are much worse than Minor
C – Brian McCann  Adam Wainwright  3,500  Tough matchup, but McCann’s productive lately and you can’t beat the price
1B – Joey Votto Clayton Kershaw  3,900  Another tough matchup, but Votto is as good as they come – .899 OPS vs. lefties
2B – Marco Scutaro
Edwin Jackson  3,800  Needed to go cheap here, and Scutaro has a very good shot at getting on base a couple times
3B – Junior Lake  Matt Cain  2,700  Silly to think he’ll keep up his Puig-like start, but at 2,700 anything he does is a net-win
SS – Hanley Ramirez
Homer Bailey  5,100 Hitting .375 in July, .357 last 7 days
OF – Carlos Beltran
Minor  4,400 No platoon split worry here – .526 SLG vs. lefties
OF – Wil Myers
CC Sabathia  4,400  Six straight multi-hit games, .854 OPS vs. lefties
OF – Kendrys Morales
Scott Diamond  3,800  Couldn’t spend too much here, but against Diamond, Morales, who hits lefties well, makes for a good play.

I just wanted to take a moment here to talk about Kyle Seager. If you’re reading this you should know who he is, but he deserves more attention than he gets. The 25-year-old has an overall line of .290/.356/.486. His .842 OPS ranks 15th in the AL, ahead of Nelson Cruz, Adam Jones and Prince Fielder. He’s on pace for 25 homers and 41 doubles, and his ISO is a career-high .194, which is up from .121 his rookie year and .163 last year. He’s also walking more and striking out less than ever before.

But the thing that really stands out when you dig into his stats is his road production. Away from SafeCo Field, Seager’s hitting .311/.379/.552. His .931 road OPS ranks 15th…in all of baseball. His 132 overall wRC+ ranks 29th in all of baseball. At just 25 Seager has a lot of potential left untapped. He’s gotten better in each of his three Major League seasons, and nothing about his 2013 performance screams fluke or regression. Just by playing in Seattle Seager will be undervalued in 2014 drafts, but he’ll easily provide great value for where you’ll be able to get him.
