2013 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: August 19th 2013

I’m going to switch it up this week because there is a great deal at DraftKings – the $100K Sweet Spot Qualifier. It’s just $2 and the winner takes home a $100K Sweet Spot Ticket valued at $100! Can’t beat that offer. And you can have up to five entries and the entries are limited to 57. Don’t forget to claim your deposit bonus!

Rotoinfo.com provides excellent updates as lineups roll in.

DraftKings.com Team of the Day:

Francisco Liriano | LHP | Pirates | $9,000 – Liriano gets to head to perhaps the friendliest park in the NL in Petco to face a Padres team with little to play for. He’s coming off of a complete game gem against the Cardinals on the road and his horrific start in Colorado prior to the Cards’ start skews his numbers and makes him a hidden gem.

Jeff Samardzija | RHP | Cubs | $8,300 – He’s been poor lately including a huge blow up against the Phillies. He heads to face a Washington team that still has aspirations of a playoff glory, but who will likely be packing up the clubhouse in early October. This is more of a hunch play as I think “The Shark” bounces back against the Nats.

Buster Posey | C | Giants | $3,400 – Say it with me – if Posey is facing a lefty, he’s in my lineup. And at this price, he can’t be beat. Posey sports a .946 OPS this season versus lefties.

Allen Craig | 1B/OF | Cardinals | $4,100 – I couldn’t find anyone that really stood out for me at first base, so I went with a reliable contributor who has a good matchup against Marco Estrada. Craig will hit cleanup in a game that Vegas pegs the over/under line at eight runs. And I think Mr. Estrada could give up more than his fair share of those eight. Check back with me during the day – I might swap him out.

Be careful with David Ortiz today (and all week). The Red Sox head to NL parks and the DH won’t be available.

Matt Carpenter | 2B/3B | Cardinals | $4,500 – Another reliable performer here, Carpenter will hit lead off in the same Cards’ lineup that gets Estrada. He does have a tidy .891 OPS on the season versus righties. I also considered Aaron Hill here for the same price as he has a stellar record against Bronson Arroyo (7 for 19 with two home runs and a 1.268 OPS). If you don’t like my 3B choice below you could swap Carpenter in there and add Hill. Who knows? I might just do that!

Evan Longoria | 3B | Rays | $5,200 – This choice is all about matchups. Longo has a great career record against O’s starter Chris Tillman. He’s 9 for 21 with three home runs and a 1.452 OPS. He’s only struck out twice in those 21 ABs so he makes contact consistently against Tillman.

Brad Miller | SS | Mariners | $2,800 – Again, not a ton I like here at SS today, so I’m going with a leadoff hitter who should get some opportunities. Double digit points in five of his last ten games on DraftKings.

Martin Prado | OF/3B | Diamondbacks | $4,300 – Prado has been “out of his mind” hot lately with two 35 point games over his last 10 games.  Moreover, he’s 6 for 12 in his career against starter Bronson Arroyo with a home run. And, if you don’t like my Longo pick, slide Prado to 3B and find another outfielder.

Josh Hamilton | OF | Angels | $3,500 – Here’s another hunch play, though Hamilton has picked it up at the plate. He’s got hits in eight of his last nine games with a .969 OPS over that time period. He’s only struck out seven times in 41 plate appearances during the streak. Plus he gets a rookie pitcher who struggled at Minnesota last time out.

Darin Ruf | OF | Phillies | $3,700 – I realized that I didn’t have any Phillies in my lineup and Vegas believes the Phils/Rockies game will be the highest scoring match on the slate. Ruf has a cool .954 OPS against right handed pitching this season.

If you want another Phil on your squad, Domonic Brown makes a solid option as well with an .898 OPS versus righties. Hunter Pence is another consideration in the outfield as he’s been warm and has a .912 OPS versus lefties this year.

If you are looking to stack, I’d look at the Phillies against Jeff Manship and the Cardinals against Marco Estrada.

Good luck today! Check me out on Twitter during the day as lineups roll in – I sometimes make moves later in the day.
