2013 Fantasy Football: Week 8 Target Practice

Key: I – Player missed game or left game early due to injury. S – Player was suspended for game. A – Player was inactive. B – Bye week. Most notable players who missed a game due to injury or benching are marked with an S or A. If a lesser-known player (for example Kory Sperry) was inactive, etc., I just put a 0 in his weekly spot because I don’t know if that player was just inactive, hurt, etc. Ownership numbers will be listed in parentheses with ESPN first, then Yahoo!

Arizona

Jaron Brown: 2-0-2-2-0-1-2-0 (9) Jim Dray: 2-7-0-1-2-2-2-0 (16) Andre Ellington: 3-2-6-6-4-5-5-2 (33) Larry Fitzgerald: 14-5-6-9-6-12-5-7 (64) Michael Floyd: 6-7-6-10-7-6-10-4 (56) Brittan Golden: 0-0-0-0-0-3-0-0 (3) Rob Housler: 0-0-3-2-2-5-7-1 (20) Rashard Mendenhall: 1-2-1-4-2-1-0-0 (11) Patrick Peterson: 1-0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2) Andre Roberts: 9-8-4-2-1-4-8-2 (38) Alfonso Smith: 1-0-1-1-3-1-4-0 (11) Kory Sperry: 1-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 (1) Stepfan Taylor: 0-0-1-0-0-0-0-0 (1)

Ellington (21, 53) had 154 yards on just 15 carries and has been a consistent option in the passing game lately.

Atlanta

Chase Coffman: 0-0-0-0-0-B-0-2 (2) Kevin Cone: 0-0-0-0-1-B-0-0 (1) Drew Davis: 0-0-1-0-0-B-1-7 (9) Patrick DiMarco: 0-0-0-0-2-B-0-2 (4) Harry Douglas: 6-5-6-6-4-B-7-18 (52) Bradie Ewing: 1-0-0-0-0-B-0-0 (1) Tony Gonzalez: 6-8-5-14-14-B-4-8 (59) Steven Jackson: 8-2-I-I-I-B-I-5 (15) Darius Johnson: 0-0-0-0-0-B-3-9 (12) Julio Jones: 9-15-12-13-11-B (60) Brian Robiskie: A-A-A-A-A-B-1-0 (1) Jacquizz Rodgers: 1-4-3-6-4-B-9-5 (32) Jason Snelling: 3-4-5-3-5-B-0-0 (20) Levine Toilolo: 0-0-1-2-2-B-0-3 (8) Roddy White: 2-3-4-9-4-B-I-I (22)

Davis (unowned) caught five passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, and could be in line for similar work as long as White is out.

Baltimore

Billy Bajema: 0-0-0-0-0-1-0-B (1) Marlon Brown: 6-6-3-8-I-7-4-B (34) Dallas Clark: 12-1-7-9-0-6-4-B (39) Ed Dickson: 0-5-0-3-2-0-2-B (12) Tandon Doss: A-A-A-9-5-6-3-B (23) Jacoby Jones: 4-I-I-I-I-2-8-B (14) Kyle Juszczyk: 0-0-0-0-1-0-0-B (1) Vonta Leach: 4-0-2-2-1-2-1-B (12) Bernard Pierce: 1-1-2-1-0-2-1-B (8) Ray Rice: 11-3-I-1-7-4-5-B (31) Torrey Smith: 8-13-9-12-9-4-6-B (61) Brandon Stokley: 10-5-1-0-0-0-0-B (16) Deonte Thompson: A-A-A-5-7-0-0-B (12)

Buffalo

Scott Chandler: 6-6-6-3-6-4-3-11 (45) Tashard Choice: 0-1-1-0-0-3-1-0 (6) Marcus Easley: 0-0-0-0-1-0-0-0 (1) T.J. Graham: 1-3-5-3-4-6-2-4 (28) Fred Jackson: 5-6-5-0-6-5-5-4 (36) Steve Johnson: 6-10-13-6-3-I-13-11 (52) Marquise Goodwin: 1-0-0-0-0-3-0-5 (9) Chris Hogan: 0-0-0-0-5-3-0-0 (8) Lee Smith: 0-0-0-2-1-0-1-0 (4) CJ Spiller: 6-5-1-0-0-2-3-I (17) Frank Summers: 0-2-0-0-0-0-0-1 (3) Robert Woods: 2-6-10-8-14-6-4-3 (53)

Carolina

Kenjon Barner: 0-0-0-B-2-0-0-1 (3) Richie Brockel: 0-0-0-B-0-0-0-1 (1) Armanti Edwards: 0-2-0-B-2-0-0-0 (4) Ted Ginn: 1-8-4-B-5-3-2-6 (29) Domenik Hixon: 0-0-1-B-0-0-0-1 (2) Brandon Lafell: 0-6-5-B-9-4-4-5 (33) Greg Olsen: 10-8-8-B-6-4-4-4 (44) Steve Smith: 8-11-7-B-10-7-6-7 (56) Mike Tolbert: 1-3-0-B-1-3-0-4 (12) DeAngelo Williams: 3-0-2-B-3-5-1-3 (17)

Tolbert (17, 22) should be owned in more leagues. He and Cam Newton serve as the top two goal-line options for Carolina, and Tolbert’s scored 39 points the past four weeks while Williams has scored just 32.

Chicago

Joe Anderson: 0-0-0-0-0-1-0-B (1) Earl Bennett: 1-2-3-4-3-2-4-B (19) Martellus Bennett: 6-9-5-12-5-7-3-B (47) Michael Bush: 1-0-1-0-0-2-0-B (4) Tony Fiammetta: 0-0-0-0-0-1-0-B (1) Matt Forte: 6-11-4-6-6-6-3-B (42) Alshon Jeffery: 8-5-8-11-13-5-7-B (57) Steve Maneri: 0-0-1-0-0-0-0-B (1) Brandon Marshall: 10-10-8-14-5-11-10-B (68) Dante Rosario: 0-0-0-0-1-0-0-B (1) Marquess Wilson: 0-0-0-0-0-0-1-B (1)

Cincinnati

Gio Bernard: 2-2-4-7-3-7-6-2 (33) Tyler Eifert: 5-5-2-5-7-3-4-4 (35) A.J. Green: 13-14-8-15-8-11-8-7 (84) BenJarvus Green-Ellis: 1-1-0-0-1-1-0-0 (4) Jermaine Gresham: 5-9-5-5-4-4-5-3 (40) Marvin Jones: 2-4-4-3-2-5-6-8 (34) Mohamed Sanu: 5-8-5-6-2-6-2-3 (37) Dane Sanzenbacher: 0-0-0-1-0-1-1-3 (6) Alex Smith: 0-1-0-0-0-0-0-0 (1) Brandon Tate: 0-0-0-0-0-1-0-1 (2)

You don’t need me to tell you Jones’s four-touchdown day is an outlier. But he’s averaged over six targets the past three weeks, as well as 64 yards and a touchdown in the two games before Sunday’s. He’s virtually unowned in ESPN leagues and at just 25 in Yahoo! so he’s worth a bench spot.

Cleveland

Gary Barnidge: 1-0-0-1-1-3-1-1 (8) Travis Benjamin: 8-0-0-1-1-2-0-0 (12) Davone Bess: 10-8-10-6-5-3-6-8 (56) Jordan Cameron: 13-7-11-12-5-6-9-4 (67) Josh Gordon: S-S-19-9-6-9-6-10 (59) Marqueis Gray: 0-0-0-0-0-0-1-1 (2) Tori Gurley: 2-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 (2) Greg Little: 10-12-8-2-5-5-9-3 (54) Willis McGahee: A-A-A-0-2-1-1-2 (6) Chris Ogbonnaya: 3-0-5-5-2-12-2-4 (33) Bobby Rainey: 0-0-1-2-1-0-0-0 (4) Fozzy Whittaker: 0-0-0-0-0-0-5-2 (7) Trent Richardson: 6 5 (Week 3 trade)

With Jason Campbell at quarterback Cameron caught all four targets for 81 yards.

Dallas

Miles Austin: 12-4-5-I-I-4-3-0 (28) Cole Beasley: 0-0-1-3-4-5-7-3 (23) Dez Bryant: 8-13-6-9-10-8-16-6 (76) Gavin Escobar: 2-1-2-0-3-0-1-0 (9) James Hanna: 0-5-0-0-1-1-0-2 (9) Dwayne Harris: 3-0-1-2-2-0-0-2 (10) DeMarco Murray: 10-6-3-5-1-2-I-I (27) Joseph Randle: 0-0-0-0-0-2-4-4 (10) Phillip Tanner: 1-0-0-0-0-0-2-1 (4) Terrance Williams: 4-3-0-8-4-2-7-10 (38) Jason Witten: 9-8-6-10-10-5-6-2 (56)

Williams (58, 73) led the ‘Boys in targets and was very close to a much bigger day than what he had. Add him in all leagues, as he’s proven he’s a better option than Austin.

Denver

Montee Ball: 0-2-0-0-0-2-0-1 (5) Andre Caldwell: 1-1-0-2-0-0-0-2 (6) Eric Decker: 7-13-8-7-8-7-13-7 (70) Joel Dreessen: 0-0-0-0-0-1-0-2 (3) Virgil Green: 0-1-2-1-0-0-0-1 (5) Ronnie Hillman: 2-1-1-3-4-2-1-0 (14) Knowshown Moreno: 3-3-2-1-5-10-6-6 (36) Jacob Tamme: 0-0-1-0-0-0-1-1 (3) Demaryius Thomas: 11-6-11-10-6-5-9-11 (69) Julius Thomas: 7-9-4-4-12-7-6-3 (52) Wes Welker: 11-8-8-9-6-8-12-10 (72)

Detroit

Joique Bell: 6-8-5-4-4-2-4-1 (34) Ryan Broyles: I-I-3-1-2-2-4-2 (14) Nate Burleson: 6-8-9-I-I-I-I (23) Reggie Bush: 8-4-I-6-6-6-5-9 (44) Kris Durham: 2-2-3-4-8-13-8-6 (46) Pat Edwards: 3-0-0-0-5-3-0 (11) Joseph Fauria: 3-0-3-0-0-3-4 (13) Calvin Johnson: 9-8-13-10-I-8-15-16 (79) Kevin Ogletree: (Acquired from Tampa Bay, Week 5) A-A-A-A-3-2-2 (7) Brandon Pettigrew: 4-6-2-7-5-4-7-6 (41) Theo Riddick: 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-1 (1) Jeremy Ross: A-A-A-A-A-A-A-3 (3) Tony Scheffler: 1-0-2-2-7-0-0 (12)

Durham (1, 14) is averaging 50 yards a game in the past six weeks, and has 17 catches the past three weeks.

Green Bay

Jarrett Boykin: 0-0-0-B-0-6-10-6 (22) Randall Cobb: 12-10-11-B-8-4-I-I (45) Jermichael Finley: 8-7-1-B-6-7-5-I (34) Johnathan Franklin: 0-0-3-B-0-1-1-0 (5) James Jones: 2-12-8-B-6-1-I-I (29) Eddie Lacy: 2-I-I-B-1-1-7-4 (15) John Kuhn: 1-0-0-B-0-2-1-2 (6) Jordy Nelson: 10-4-9-B-7-10-6-8 (54) Andrew Quarless: 0-3-5-B-0-0-1-2 (11) Jeremy Ross: 0-0-2-B-0-0-0 (2) James Starks: 1-5-0-B-0-0-0-0 (6) Ryan Taylor: 0-0-3-B-1-0-0-0 (4) Myles White: 0-0-0-B-0-0-2-7 (9)

Boykin (61, 73) caught five of six targets for 89 yards. As long as Jones and Cobb remain out for a while he’s worth a starting spot.

Houston

Owen Daniels: 7-5-9-11-9-I-I-B (43) Arian Foster: 8-4-2-8-5-7-0-B (34) Garrett Graham: 5-5-0-6-5-4-8-B (33) Ryan Griffin: A-A-A-1-0-3-0-B (4) DeAndre Hopkins: 6-13-7-3-4-5-4-B (42) Lestar Jean: 0-0-0-0-0-2-2-B (4) Andre Johnson: 16-13-6-12-10-8-6-B (71) Greg Jones: A-A-A-1-1-2-0-B (4) Keshawn Martin: 0-2-3-6-1-2-0-B (14) DeVier Posey: 0-0-4-0-2-1-2-B (9) Ben Tate: 2-4-4-1-2-4-3-B (20)

Jacksonville

Justin Blackmon: S-S-S-S-9-20-9-10 (48) Mike Brown: 3-0-0-0-0-5-8-6 (22) Stephen Burton: 0-3-9-0-0-0-0-0 (12) Jeremy Ebert: 0-0-0-3-2-0-0-0 (5) Justin Forsett: 5-0-0-0-0-3-1-3 (12) Clay Harbor: 1-4-1-8-5-3-0-1 (23) Maurice Jones-Drew: 2-1-5-1-3-2-2-8 (24) Marcedes Lewis: 0-0-0-0-0-0-3-3 (6) Allen Reisner: 5-2-1-1-0-0-0-0 (9) Denard Robinson: 0-0-0-1-0-0-0-0 (1) Ace Sanders: 9-7-3-8-1-3-0-1 (32) Cecil Shorts: 11-14-15-12-10-1-13-10 (86) Will Ta’ufo’ou: 1-0-1-0-1-3-0-3 (9) Jordan Todman: 4-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 (4) D.J. Williams: 0-0-1-0-1-0-0-0 (2) Stephen Williams: 0-0-0-0-0-2-0-0 (2)

MJD’s 75 rush yards were his best output of the season, and so were his eight targets, six of which he caught for 47 yards. He could be a good buy-low if his owner is back in the standings.

Kansas City

Donnie Avery: 5-4-7-10-4-4-4-5 (43) Dwayne Bowe: 6-8-3-7-6-4-9-2 (45) Kevin Brock: 0-0-1-2-2-1 (6) Jamaal Charles: 6-10-8-11-9-9-4-7 (64) Knile Davis: 1-0-0-0-1-1-0-1 (4) Anthony Fasano: 5-2-0-0-o-I-5-3 (15) Cyrus Gray: 1-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 (1) Chad Hall: 0-0-1-0-4-0-0-1 (6) Junior Hemingway: 1-0-1-0-1-1-0-1 (5) A.J. Jenkins: 0-0-2-0-1-1-0-0 (4) Dexter McCluster: 5-4-4-5-3-5-5-10 (41) Sean McGrath: 0-4-4-5-6-3-2-2 (26) Anthony Sherman: 4-0-2-1-2-0-4-3 (16)

Miami

Charles Clay: 6-7-6-6-6-B-3-8 (42) Michael Egnew: 0-0-1-0-1-B-0-2 (4) Brandon Gibson: 10-2-8-8-5-B-8-2 (43) Brian Hartline: 14-8-6-4-7-B-11-6 (56) Rishard Matthews: 0-0-4-2-0-B-1-6 (13) Lamar Miller: 1-2-3-3-0-B-3-3 (15) Dion Sims: 0-0-1-1-0-B-0-2 (4) Marcus Thigpen: 0-0-0-2-1-B-0-0 (3) Daniel Thomas: 1-1-1-1-2-B-1-1 (8) Mike Wallace: 5-11-5-7-16-B-10-10 (64)

Clay (51, 69) has at least five catches or a touchdown in every game except one, in which he had four catches for 40 yards. In deeper PPR leagues he’s definitely worth a pickup if you can use a tight end at flex.

Minnesota

John Carlson: 1-2-2-2-B-2-2-2 (13) Jerome Felton: 0-0-0-0-B-0-2-0 (2) Toby Gerhart: 0-0-2-1-B-2-3-2 (10) Greg Jennings: 7-6-6-4-B-10-10-3 (46) Cordarrelle Patterson: 1-2-4-2-B-2-6-3 (20) Adrian Peterson: 4-2-6-1-B-4-4-3 (24) Kyle Rudolph: 4-6-8-2-B-11-9-4 (44) Jerome Simpson: 8-5-8-11-B-7-9-3 (51) Joe Webb: 0-0-1-1-B-4-1-0 (7) Jarius Wright: 2-2-4-1-B-2-5-0 (16)

Rudolph had an OK game this week, but with the QB situation the way it is in Minny it’s just impossible to recommend any receiver here.

New England

Danny Amendola: 14-I-I-I-9-4-I-6 (33) LeGarrette Blount: 0-1-0-0-0-1-0-0 (2) Brandon Bolden: 0-0-6-1-0-3-3-2 (15) Josh Boyce: 2-0-1-3-0-0-0-0 (6) Austin Collie: I-I-I-I-I-2-5-0 (7) James Develin: 0-1-0-1-0-0-0-0 (2) Aaron Dobson: 0-10-10-3-4-10-7-5 (39) Julian Edelman: 9-18-7-9-7-11-7-2 (70) Rob Gronkowski: I-I-I-I-I-I-17-5 (22) Michael Hoomanawanui: 2-0-2-0-2-4-0-0 (10) Matthew Mulligan: 0-0-0-1-0-0-0-0 (1) Stevan Ridley: 0-0-0-2-0-1-2-0 (5) Kenbrell Thompkins: 14-7-7-11-4-6-5-1 (55) Shane Vereen: 10-I-I-I-I-I-I-I (10)

Dobson’s been pretty consistent lately, but he’s no more than a third option here and he’s not an option in PPR leagues.

New Orleans

Travaris Cadet: 0-0-0-0-0-1-B-0 (1) Jed Collins: 0-0-1-1-5-1-B-1 (9) Marques Colston: 6-7-8-8-2-3-B-6 (42) Jimmy Graham: 7-16-15-4-11-6-B-3 (62) Mark Ingram: 0-1-0-0-0-0-B-0 (1) Robert Meachem: 0-0-2-1-1-1-B-3 (8) Lance Moore: 4-4-3-I-I-I-B-4 (15) Darren Sproles: 6-8-6-8-3-12-B-4 (47) Kenny Stills: 5-0-2-6-2-3-B-4 (22) Pierre Thomas: 4-5-6-6-9-1-B-3 (34) Nick Toon: 0-0-0-2-1-4-B-0 (7) Ben Watson: 3-0-2-2-1-4-B-3 (15)

Stills (1, 11) had three catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He’s scored in two straight and, outside of Graham, is currently the only real game-changer in the Saints’ offense and is worth a pickup in 12-teamers and larger.

New York Giants

John Conner: 0-0-0-0-0-0-5-1 (6) Michael Cox: 0-0-0-0-0-0-2-1 (3) Victor Cruz: 8-11-8-16-12-5-7-10 (77) Larry Donnell: 0-3-0-0-0-1-0-1 (5) Peyton Hillis: 0-0-0-0-0-0-6-5 (11) Henry Hynoski: 1-0-1-0-0-0-0-0 (2) Brandon Jacobs: 0-1-0-1-3-2-I-I (7) Jerrel Jernigan: 0-0-1-0-3-0-0-4 (7) Louis Murphy: 0-0-1-0-0-0-0-0 (1) Brandon Myers: 9-10-6-1-5-1-3-4 (39) Hakeem Nicks: 8-7-1-9-12-8-10-12 (67) Rueben Randle: 6-9-4-4-13-5-3-1 (45) Da’Rel Scott: 8-4-3-2-A-2-0-0 (19 Bear Pascoe: 0-2-2-1-0-2-2-0 (9) David Wilson: 1-1-0-3-1-I-I-I (5)

Nelson (unowned) has 80 yards in back-to-back games, and while he’s not special his seven and 12 targets, respectively, make him a rosterable option in deep leagues going forward.

Oakland

Brice Butler: 1-3-4-3-1-1-B-3 (16) Jacoby Ford: 2-2-1-0-2-2-B-1 (10) Andre Holmes: 0-0-0-0-0-1-B (1) Rashad Jennings: 0-2-2-8-0-2-B (14) Jeron Mastrud: 1-0-0-2-0-2-B-1 (6) Darren McFadden: 5-4-1-0-I-3-B-2 (15) Denarius Moore: 7-2-11-6-8-10-B-4 (48) Jamize Olawale: 0-0-0-1-2-0-B (3) Marcel Reece: 2-0-5-2-3-3-B (15) Mychal Rivera: 3-3-3-6-3-3-B-1 (22) Jeremy Stewart: 0-0-0-1-1-0-B (2) Rod Streater: 8-4-4-3-3-7-B-6 (35)

Sanders (79, 50) caught seven passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. Bell’s usage in the passing game – five catches for 27 yards – makes him even more valuable going forward.

Thanks to one big play, an 80-yard TD, Tate had the best game of his season Monday night – five catches, 93 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Rams have given up a touchdown to the opponents’ No. 1 receiver every game this season, so I’d hesitate to use Tate in any non-very deep league as he’s too inconsistent and his good days are still just mediocre.

St. Louis

Tavon Austin: 7-12-7-8-6-1-5-3 (49) Stedman Bailey: 0-0-1-0-0-0-0-0 (1) Jared Cook: 10-6-7-9-3-2-7-6 (49) Benny Cunningham: 0-0-3-1-0-0-0-0 (4) Chris Givens: 3-8-8-8-7-4-2-5 (45) Cory Harkey: 0-0-1-0-2-1-2-1 (7) Lance Kendricks: 4-3-5-1-6-2-3-5 (29) Mike McNeill: 0-1-0-0-0-0-0-0 (1) Isaiah Pead: S-4-7-S-1-0-0-0 (12) Austin Pettis: 6-11-5-9-5-1-4-4 (45) Brian Quick: 2-1-4-3-2-2-6-3 (23) Daryl Richardson: 6-6-0-2-1-1-1-1 (18) Zac Stacy: 0-0-0-0-1-2-4-3 (10)

Downgrading to Kellen Clemens hurts most St. Louis’s players’ stock, except Stacy. Givens caught four for 59 yards and had a rush for 16 yards, so if I were to pick any receiver here to start it’d be him.

Mike Williams went to the IR with a torn hamstring last week, so he’s droppable in standard leagues. Wright is the main beneficiary from this, as he finished second on the team in targets last week – granted, most of them were in garbage time – and has 19 catches in his last four games. The Bucs will probably be trailing quite a bit the rest of the season so he should continue to see a good amount of targets.

Reed (62, 73) and Garcon are all you need to know here. Reed’s had his three best games in the past three weeks, catching 21 balls for 282 yards. In non-PPR scoring he currently ranks 10th among tight ends, and his 34 receptions ranks seventh. He should be owned in all leagues.
