2013 Fantasy Football Daily Fix: Week 10 Running Back Recommendations

Check out today’s Daily Fix for injury news concerning Jay Cutler, Roddy White and Andre Brown, as well as DraftKings daily fantasy football running back picks like Danny Woodhead and Reggie Bush.

News and Notes

  •  Jay Cutler is expected to start Sunday against Detroit after being medically cleared, Bears coach Marc Trestman told the media Sunday. Cutler practiced Thursday for the first time since tearing part of his groin muscle Oct. 20. Cutler doesn’t expect he’ll be limited this weekend, and he reported he was 100 percent healthy. Detroit’s allowed multiple touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks in each of the last three weeks, so Cutler makes for a good start as a top-12 quarterback this week.
  • Seneca Wallace will start for Green Bay Sunday against Philadelphia, even though the Packers plan to bring in former cheese-head Matt Flynn for a workout. Whether or not Flynn works out or signs with the Packers before Sunday’s game Green Bay will start Wallace this week.
  • Roddy White appears ready to play Sunday for the first time since Week 5. Also in that link, the Giants activated Andre Brown from the Injured Reserve/Designated for Return list Thursday. Only owned in 23 percent of ESPN leagues, Brown should be picked up in any league he’s available. It’s very possible Brown becomes fantasy relevant very soon thanks to a very ugly Giants’ backfield. New York placed David Wilson on season-ending Injured Reserve, so in all non-keeper leagues you can drop him while yelling at yourself for drafting him in the second or third round.

Here are the rules for the different NFL games DraftKings offers, and I’ll go ahead and list the running back scoring settings here:

  • 10 Rushing Yards = +1PT (+0.1PT per yard is awarded)
  • Rushing TD = +6PTs
  • 100+ Yard Rushing Game = +3PTs
  • 10 Receiving Yards = +1PT (+0.1PT per yard is awarded)
  • Reception = +1PT
  • Receiving TD = +6PTs
  • 100+ Yard Receiving Game = +3PTs
  • Punt/Kickoff Return for TD = +6PTs
  • Fumble Lost = -1PT
  • 2 Point Conversion (Pass, Run, or Catch) = +2PTs

Expensive

Reggie Bush – $7,100 – at Chicago – Bush’s best game of the season came in Week 4 against the Bears, when he had 139 yards on 18 carries and four catches for 34 yards. The Bears have given up 449 rushing yards and seven touchdowns to running backs in just the last three games. Bush is averaging over 21 touches a game.

Eddie Lacy – $7,100 – vs. Philadelphia – Lacy’s easily the start of the week among running backs. Philly gave up two rushing touchdowns to the Raiders last week as well as 176 total yards to Rashad Jennings. Lacy’s carried at least 22 times in each of his last five games; rushed for 109 yards on average in his last five; and has scored in the last three games. With Aaron Rodgers out Lacy will see at least 25 touches against a vulnerable Eagles D.

Reasonable

Zac Stacy – $6,600 – at Indianapolis – Since taking the starting job five weeks ago Stacy has averaged 112 total yards and 23 touches a game, culminating in last week’s 33-touch, two-score performance. Stacy’s proven he can carry the load against stacked boxes, so don’t worry about his matchup against a Colts defense that ranks sixth against backs. Indy’s actually allowed at least 116 rushing yards in three of its last four games.

Danny Woodhead – $5,600 – vs. Denver – Woodhead leads all running backs in receptions, and he should see plenty of action on passing downs this week against the Broncos, who’ve given up 11 touchdowns to running backs. Woodhead has five or more catches in five of eight games and has at least 47 receiving yards in each of his last six games.

Cheap

C.J. Spiller – $5,200 – at Pittsburgh – Spiller looked like his normal self last week against a tough Chiefs defense, rushing for 116 yards on just 12 carries and gaining 39 yards on just two catches. His ankle seems to be close to 100 percent healthy, and even with Fred Jackson‘s carries Spiller should feast against the fifth-worst defense against running backs. The Steelers have allowed five touchdowns to running backs in the last two weeks and have allowed four opponents to rush for over 100 yards.

Mike James – $4,000 – vs. Miami – James destroyed Seattle’s defense last week, rushing for 158 yards on 28 attempts. While he hasn’t done much yardage-wise in the air he does have nine catches in the last three games. Miami is the third friendliest fantasy D against running backs, and has allowed a score to an RB in each of its last five games
