Welcome to the fifteenth entry of The Fix’s Fantasy Football Injury Report.  Each week I (@Rich_Migs) will cover several key fantasy football related injuries.  The idea is not to cover every football injury, but instead cover the notable ones that have direct fantasy implications.  As the season continues, the report will address the most recent injuries and their fantasy football related consequences.

I will try to avoid repeating names too often from week to week unless there is news to report.  We are entering Week 11 and if you would like to see the injury list for Week 14, please click here.   You can see all my injury reports (and my other work) by following my archive here

Well, last week we got lucky in terms of devastating injuries.  This week?  Not so much.  And of course it is right in time for everyone’s fantasy playoffs.  Let’s sigh together.

Week Fifteen

Player

Injury

Status/Update

Stock Risers/Fallers

Rob Gronkowski (TE)

Torn right ACL/MCL

Out for Season:

Gronk tore up his knee, and it continues to be tough sledding for arguably the best overall tight end in the league.  He will look to return at some point during the 2014 season.

Tom Brady (QB). Shane Vereen (RB). Danny Amendola (WR).  Obviously Brady losing Gronk comes at a terrible time for fantasy owners.   Vereen and Amendola will likely pick up some extra targets.

Adrian Peterson (RB)

Mid-Foot Sprain

Doubtful for Week 15:

He is all, but out for week 15, and could very well miss the rest of the season.  AP doesn’t need surgery, but there is no reason for Minnesota to rush him back at this point.

Toby Gerhart (RB). Gerhart needs to be owned in all formats, and in these desperate times, AP owners need to do what they can to snatch him up if he is available.

Reggie Bush (RB)

Concussion

Questionable for Week 15:

He was a last minute DNP (literally) because he aggravated his calf in warm-ups.  It would be easy to say he should be ready for week 15, but owners must be wary.

Joique Bell (RB).  Bell has the chance to save fantasy seasons this week if Bush is inactive.  Odds are Bell isn’t available, but he should be added in all leagues, especially by Bush owners.

Wes Welker (WR)

Concussion

Questionable for Week 15:

This is concerning.  Welker had a concussion just a few weeks ago, and has now suffered another.  You can probably consider him out for week 15, but there is also a chance he can miss multiple weeks.  That would mean he’d miss the fantasy playoffs.

Eric Decker (WR).  Demaryius Thomas (WR). Julius Thomas (TE).  Much of this isn’t rocket science I suppose.  Peyton Manning throws the ball, these guys catch the ball, and the world keeps on spinning.

Eddie Lacy (RB)

Ankle

Questionable for Week 15:

Lacy suffered an ankle injury last week, and although he stayed in the game, he is considered 50-50 to play this week.

James Starks (RB).  Starks would draw the start if Lacy isn’t able to go.  He will be hit or miss, but some owners with Lacy or AP may not have a better options.

Lamar Miller (RB)

Concussion

Questionable  for Week 15:

Miller will be trying to get cleared for week 15.

Daniel Thomas (RB). If Miller is out, Thomas gets a big boost in carries and could be a needed play for some fantasy teams hit by injuries.

Other Injury Related News:

  • Aaron Rodgers (QB) is trying to return this week, but the Packers plan to be careful.  We can only assume the team understands that it’s the fantasy playoffs.
  • Jonathan Stewart (RB) has a torn MCL and will likely miss the rest of the regular season.  The Panthers’ backfield isn’t an appealing option for fantasy owners.
  • Jay Cutler (QB) returned to practice this week and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him return in week 15.
