It didn’t take long for George Springer to graduate on to the rookie report. Houston’s consensus top three prospect was called up essentially as soon as the Astros had guaranteed themselves another year of control over him. In a nutshell, it’s good for all sides. Springer gets to play in the show. The Astros give their fans some excitement. And fantasy players get a potential power speed combination that could help win leagues.

Javier Baez hasn’t had any plate appearances since our last update, but he’s back active after missing a week with a sore ankle.  Speaking of ankles, Oscar Taveras has been performing very well since Opening Day. After having his ankle surgically repaired, Taveras has shown constant improvement in his mobility. Luckily, hit bat-to-ball skills never seemed to waver.

Addison Russell hasn’t taken the field in a few days due to hamstring issues. Oakland has no need to rush him back, so I’d imagine they’re careful with him going forward. Kris Bryant and Joc Pederson might have been the two most impressive minor leaguers over the first few weeks of the season. Unfortunately their 2014 impact likely won’t be very large. Bryant still needs some time to iron out the swing-and-miss in his game, and Pederson has exactly zero spots to occupy in Los Angeles. Unless he’s traded or the Dodgers suffer a rash of injuries, Pederson won’t be seeing regular plate appearances anytime soon.

If Archie Bradley had any chance of being called up early it’s probably gone. He’s struggled with his command, and the Diamondbacks’ record is a paltry 5-16. The Diamondbacks’ front office has made some questionable decisions, but I can’t imagine they’ll call Bradley up anytime soon given the issues both parties are currently having.

After getting off to a rough start in his first two appearances, Jonathan Gray twirled a nice ballgame during his latest start. His potential is through the roof, and given the Rockies’ iffy rotation he could join Montero, Syndergaard, and Stroman in the bigs rather quickly. The aforementioned Stroman has been lights out so far. I selfishly wish they’d call him up immediately simply because watching shorter pitchers throw easy gas is super fun to watch.

Addison Russell has a bit more than a hamstring issue… it’s torn.
