2014 Fantasy Golf Daily Fix: WGC – Bridgestone Invitational

Welcome back to another edition of The Fantasy Fix’s Daily Fantasy golf column. This week we are off to the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club. And DraftKings has rolled out the red carpet again with some fantastic games. Come on over and take a look.

Tour Stop

The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational will be held at the Firestone Country Club just outside of Akron, Ohio. I wonder if LeBron James will swing by? The pros will play on the South Course which is a 7,400 yard, par 70 track. This tournament has been hosted at the South Course since 2006 so we should see some course history come into play. It is a tough course grading out as the second toughest par 70 (outside the majors) last year.

Water comes into play on only three holes, but there is plenty of length and bunkers guard many holes. We’ll need players with length, but also a soft touch around the greens.  Greens in Regulation (GIR) are going to be important as will driving accuracy.

Field

This is a no cut invitation only tournament so we’ve got all 50 of the top 50 we’ve got 49 of the top 50 – Dustin Johnson has withdrawn – in the Overall World Golf Rankings are here this week.

Let’s look at a few options this week. The winner here is generally a major-winner as well.

DraftKingsExpert Picks

tiger landKeegan Bradley | $9,300 – Three straight top 20s here including a win and a tie for second in the last two years puts him on the list.

Luke Donald | $9,300 – There aren’t a lot of sleepers in a tourney like this and Donald isn’t one per se as he’s been top 20 here the last three years. However, he’s not played well on the PGA Tour so you’d be taking a risk going with him based on his results here in the past.

Victor Dubuisson | $7,400 – There aren’t many hotter players on the planet right now than Dubuisson. He suffered through a shoulder injury in the middle of the season, but he’s been strong lately with a top 10 at the Open Championship.

Jason Dufner | $8,300 – Back to back top 10s put Dufner here. He is not in top form and is a risk like Donald, but he’s been money here.

Thongchai Jaidee | $6,800 – Jaidee is here because he’s (1) cheap and (2) had some success at WGC events in the past. If you want to step up to the top level of players, you’ll need a player like Jaidee in your lineup.

Martin Kaymer | $8,700 – Kaymer always seems to play well on difficult course with top fields (recall he won the PLAYERS earlier this year).

Henrik Stenson | $9,300 – Stenson was tied for second here last year and he’s got the driving accuracy thing down (seventh on the European Tour and 14 th on the PGA Tour).

Steve Stricker | $8,400 – Stricker is like Bradley in that he’s been in the top 20 for the last three years. He’s playing a minimal schedule, but has been successful when he’s on the course.

Tiger Woods | $9,800 – Woods is on here, but I wouldn’t touch him. True, he won last year. True he’s won multiple times on this course. He’s not ready for prime time yet. He hasn’t shown he has the stamina yet to put four solid rounds together.

Gary Woodland | $7,300 – Woodland is a bomber which will help this week and the hope with taking him is that he can bomb his way out of trouble as his driving accuracy leaves something to be desired.

Check out my lineup as it sits right now.

Scoring Notes: Ties for a finishing position will not reduce or average down points. For example, if 2 golfers tie for 3rd place, each will receive the 18 fantasy points for the 3rd place finish result. Playoff Holes will not count towards final scoring, with the exception of the “finishing position” scoring. For example, the golfer who wins the tournament will receive the sole award of 1st place points, but will not accrue points for their scoring result in the individual playoff holes.

Player Lock Notes: All golfers lock at the time the first golfer tees off on day 1 of an event.
