2014 Fantasy Football Daily Fix: Week 5 Tight Ends

DailyFixDKFeaturedImage

It is on to week 5 of Daily Fantasy Football at DraftKings. I’m back again this week to offer my picks for the Tight End position at DraftKings. We have seen a the TE position solidify and we now have enough data to speak relatively intelligently about which defneses are good and bad against TEs. So, let’s see what there is to choose from for the Week 5 DFS slate.

This is a great week to check out DraftKings and pick up a new way to play fantasy football.

DraftKings Tight End Recommendations

If you’ve never played on DraftKings before, you can get a deposit bonus by signing up. And there are different options to pick from at DraftKings for any skill level.

Also, a gentle reminder on the scoring for Tight Ends – this is a PPR site so remember that when selecting players. The full for scoring for Tight Ends is at the end of this column.

Tight Ends can also be used in the flex position at DraftKings. However, with the entire world of RBs and WRs at your disposal, it would be unlikely you’d have to head to the TEs to pick up a flex play. Jimmy Graham is always in play as a flex option.

Let’s take a look at a couple of options at each price point. For those who are new to the column, I’ll generally look at a couple of options in each pricing tier broken out based on the socioeconomic status of 1970s sitcom families. And I’ll always cover Jimmy Graham.

I’ll mention Football Outsiders a lot over the season – the passes per game and yards per game stats I use are from Football Outsiders. Here is the link to Football Outsiders’ 2013 stats. FO stats for 2014 are here and I like to use the defense versus types of receivers to fill out my rosters.

Teams on bye: Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins – hopefully Charles Clay gets tiem to get healthy on the break and turns things around for his owners.

The Graham Tier

Jimmy Graham | Saints | $7,600 – Graham picked up 21.6 points last week though it wasn’t all wine and roses as he did lose a fumble and didn’t pick up his TD until the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand. He’s back again this week with a fantastic matchup with the porous Tampa Bay defense. He’s also back at home where Drew Brees and the rest of the Saints are much better team. Graham’s again the safe play and will be a cash game staple.

The Jeffersons

Julius Thomas | Broncos | $6,900 – Thomas comes back off a bye and faces the worst defense versus TEs in 2013 in the Arizona Cardinals. They are near the bottom of the list again this season. If you want to save a few bucks, Thomas should do a reasonable Jimmy Graham impersonation this week.

All in the Family

Delanie Walker | Titans | $4,300 – Walker blows up last week and his salary drops $600? Give me more. He faces the Browns who are in the bottom five against TEs this season. And with Jake Locker looking to get back under center this week (and Check Down King Charlie Whitehurst waiting in the wings), Walker should be due for another monster week. He’ll be my play on most rosters this week.

Heath Miller | Steelers | $4,000 – Miller’s matchup against the Jags is too hard to ignore. He’s coming off a 10-catch performance against a team that likely can’t slow Miller down if the Steelers choose to target him often.

Good Times

There is still a lot of value and a few new names to check out.

Jordan Reed | Washington | $3,600 – I have to cover Reed because his matchup is so nice against the Seahawks. Reed is practicing a bit as he and Niles Paul ($5,100) attempt to work back from different injuries. The game is Monday night so you may not want to wait on as you can easily slot Paul back in if Reed doesn’t play. But Reed is on the radar now and could work in a Monday/Thursday play for next week.

Travis Kelce | Chiefs | $3,000 – Kelce’s role continues to grow and his production has followed. And he’s back down to the minimum salary for offensive players at DraftKings. He’s the only passing game option in the Chiefs’ offense. His matchup isn’t great, but the Chiefs will have to throw from time to time and Kelce’s the man.

Beyond Kelce, there are four other $3,000 options that are viable this week.

Clay Harbor | Jaguars | $3,000 – Harbor waltzed into the starting lineup for the Jags with Marcedes Lewis’ injury. The TE has been big in the Jags offense and Harbor caught all eight of his targets last week. Harbor will continue to be Blake Bortles security blanket as he grows as an NFL QB.

Zach Miller | Seahawks | $3,000 – Miller’s now the starting TE for the Seahawks who head to Washington to face a defense that gave up three TDs to the New York Giants’ Larry Donnell just last week. If you really believe in Jordan Reed, you could always hold Miller in your pocket for the late Monday night switch.

Garrett Graham | Texans | $3,000 – Graham’s got a cherry matchup with the Cowboys this week. Unfortunately he’s hooked to the Ryan Fitzpatrick wagon so he’s less than assured of getting the targets necessary.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Buccaneers | $3,000Mike Evans is out for the next two or three weeks so Seferian-Jenkins moves up a notch in the target pecking order. He played all 71 offensive snaps for the Bucs last week and he’s going to be a force moving forward.

Good luck in Week 5!
