2014 Fantasy Football: Week 7 QB and D/ST Streaming Options

Defense/Special Teams streaming has been a popular option for a while now for fantasy owners. But quarterback streaming has begun being put into use just recently, it seems. As the demand grows we must meet it with a supply of fantasy articles. Each week I’ll highlight as many appealing quarterbacks and defenses fantasy owners can pick up for that week to stream in their starting lineups. As the season progresses, more options will appear as teams and players are dropped and we discover who’s real and who’s not. If you have any questions about these picks or fantasy football in general, hit me up on Twitter @44AMiller.

Quarterback (Quarterbacks on bye: Nick Foles, Mike Glennon)

Andy Dalton (53%, 74%) at Indianapolis – Indy ranks seventh in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, but look at who the Colts have faced at QB: Manning, Foles, Bortles, Henne, Whitehurst, Mettenberger, Flacco, Fitzpatrick. They gave up 600 yards and four touchdowns combined to Manning and Foles, but have luckily faced mostly should-be backups since then. That’s why their ranking is so good. Dalton is better than most if not all those quarterbacks except Manning obviously, and without A.J. Green last week he had the best game of his season: 323 yards and two touchdowns, plus 25 rushing yards. This figures to be another shootout as the Cincy defense isn’t playing well and the Colts are leading the league in points.

Carson Palmer (8 percent owned ESPN, 13 percent owned Yahoo!) at Oakland – Oakland ranks 13th in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, but the Raiders are similar to the Colts in that they’ve faced only two quarterbacks who are legitimately good starting quarterbacks. They’ve faced the Jets, Texans and Dolphins, so that’s bumping down their points allowed average. Palmer looked good Sunday in his return from a shoulder injury, and he shouldn’t miss a beat against Oakland. He should be owned in a lot more leagues ASAP.

Brian Hoyer (12%, 13%) at Jacksonville – Jacksonville has allowed the sixth most fantasy points to quarterbacks and four multi-touchdown games. Hoyer has been really consistent this year, throwing for over 200 yards and a score in every game to go with 8.22 yards per attempt – fourth best in the league – and seven touchdowns to only one interception. Jacksonville only has one interception, as well.

Defense (Notable D/ST’s on bye: Philadelphia)

Cleveland (21%, 54%) at Jacksonville – Jacksonville has been the second-easiest offense for defenses to score on this year, and it hasn’t been much better with Blake Bortles starting. Bortles has taken 11 sacks in the three-plus games he’s played/started. He’s thrown seven picks in those games with two going for pick-sixes. I know that’s not a future indicator of defensive scores, but Jacksonville has no running game and no dominant receivers so Bortles is going to be throwing a ton even if the Jags are up. There will be plenty of opportunities for Cleveland.

Chicago (19%, 69%) vs. Miami – The Bears have scored well in four of six games this year, only one of which benefited from a defensive touchdown. They have four multi-sack games, and the Dolphins have allowed four sacks in two of their five games this season. Miami has allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing defenses, and I think the Bears have another strong game this weekend.

Washington (11%, 4%) vs. Tennessee – Washington ranks only 26th in fantasy points, but Tennessee – regardless of whom it starts at quarterback – is a great streaming matchup. The Titans have inconsistent quarterback play, no consistent running game and a bad offensive line. They’ve allowed at least two sacks in every game, and four games of at least three sacks. Ryan Kerrigan (6.5 sacks) should have a big day leading Washington’s defense.
