2014 Fantasy Football Daily Fix: Week 10 Tight Ends

DailyFixDKFeaturedImageIt is on to week 10 of Daily Fantasy Football at DraftKings. I’m back again this week to offer my picks for the Tight End position at DraftKings. We have a bunch of teams on bye this week yet again, so our slate is a bit smaller from which to choose. Should you pay or go dumpster diving this week for your DFS TE? Let’s see if we can find one of those diamonds in the rough for Week 10 DFS slate.

This is a great week to check out DraftKings and pick up a new way to play fantasy football.

DraftKings Tight End Recommendations

If you’ve never played on DraftKings before, you can get a deposit bonus by signing up. And there are different options to pick from at DraftKings for any skill level.

Also, a gentle reminder on the scoring for Tight Ends – this is a PPR site so remember that when selecting players. The full for scoring for Tight Ends is at the end of this column.

Tight Ends can also be used in the flex position at DraftKings. However, with the entire world of RBs and WRs at your disposal, it would be unlikely you’d have to head to the TEs to pick up a flex play. Jimmy Graham is always in play as a flex option.

Let’s take a look at a couple of options at each price point. For those who are new to the column, I’ll generally look at a couple of options in each pricing tier broken out based on the socioeconomic status of 1970s sitcom families. And I’ll always cover Jimmy Graham.

I’ll mention Football Outsiders a lot over the season – the passes per game and yards per game stats I use are from Football Outsiders. Here is the link to Football Outsiders’ 2013 stats. FO stats for 2014 are here and I like to use the defense versus types of receivers to fill out my rosters.

Teams on bye: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers, Washington. No Gronk. No Gates. No Jordan Reed and we’re also missing the Colt’s duo of Fleener and Allen so the ranks are certainly thinned this week.

The Graham Tier

Jimmy Graham | Saints | $6,300 – Graham looks fully healthy now so he should be able to start putting up his standard 20+ point though this week might be a tough one to trust Graham. The Niners are stingy giving up only 42.4 yards per game to TEs. That paired with Mark Ingram’s emergence in the backfield gives me pause with Graham this week.

The Jeffersons

Nothing really to see here – I’d rather move down the ladder to save some money at the TE position than take a spot up here in a deluxe apartment in the sky.  This certainly looks like a week to punt the TE position with one of the cheaper options below.

All in the Family

Julius Thomas | Broncos | $4,900 – Boy, Thomas sure looks inviting down here in the mid-tier. However, he has only 12 catches over his last four games and is coming off a season-low two targets. So, perhaps the Broncos try to get him back into the offensive flow, but Oakland only gives up 6.7 passes per game to TEs so Thomas will need to make the most of what should be a limited opportunity.

Heath Miller | Steelers | $4,500 – Miller is usually good for one or two huge games each year. He’s had those two games already this year so who knows if he’s got another big game left. He was basically shut out last week with Big Ben throwing six TDs (after exploding the prior week).  The Jets are friendly to TEs, but that is based mostly on giving up TDs as they’ve given up four TDs in the last two weeks to TEs and 11 overall this year. So, Miller has a pretty high floor of about 10 points (assuming a TD), but his ceiling is limited.

Good Times

Mychal Rivera | Raiders | $3,800 – Rivera has 15 catches over his last two weeks and picked up two TDs last week. And now the news that Rivera is a key piece of the offense. This week he gets a friendly matchup with the Broncos (fifth most DraftKings’ points given up on nearly 8 passes to TEs per game). The Raiders will probably need to throw a ton to keep up with the aerial attack of Denver.  He’s going to be in most of my GPP lineups this week.

Owen Daniels | Ravens | $3,300 – Daniels made a quick recovery from knee surgery to return to the lineup last week. He’s had double digit points in three of his last four starts. The Titans aren’t the easiest matchup, but Daniels is a big part of the Ravens’ offense, especially in the red zone so he’s a good contrarian play.

Clay Harbor | Jaguars | $3,200 – Harbor’s matchup is cherry. Harbor? Not so much as he has just two catches total over the last two weeks. The Cowboys are one of the friendliest defenses around (8.8 passes per game given up to TEs – most in the league) so the opportunities should be there, but the Jags’ current offense makes Harbor a desperation play.

Good luck in Week 10!
